Well, this is a Yule gift for my Aunt. She's got a mermaid theme in her massage room, so I thought I'd do a piece.
This mermaid is based on a type of tropical fish I found on google image search. I'm not sure the name of it, all I know is that the photo of the fish was labeled Chrisdes. So, this mermaid's name is Chrisdes.
The mermaid was drawn and inked by hand with mechanical pencils, faber-castell pigment liners and maped ethic eraser. The colouring was dnoe with a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and Photoshop CS2. The bg texture are alterations from one of ShadyMedusa's stock textures.
The transition and lighting of the mermaid grew darker and darker as I was colouring her and I now worry that she'll be too dark for the light and relaxing mood of a Massage room. Regardless, I'm happy with how she turned out as a piece of art. Unfortunately despite all intentions to make it a legal paper size for ease of printing, when i was 3/4 done i looked at the canvas size and realized I'd never resized to make it a standard paper format. *shoots self in the eye*
Anyway... I'm really happy with how the whole thing came together, and it was a bit experimental in a few places, so hopefully you like it too~
