I love matching sets. So, for the Art Show I've decided to do a matching set I've been planning and wanting to do for years. Finally I will have a reason to get around to it. Here's the first of the 9.
In Ul-Zaorith there are 9 Elements: Planet, Sun, Moons, Light, Dark, Earth, Water, Air, Fire. Here is the Element of Air. Air is representative of Communication, inspiration, artistic pursuits, creativity, peace, healing, revelation, freedom, travel, news and intelligence...
The form of Magic I chose to represent the Element of Air was Astral Travel, since it involves a communication of the spirit, sending the spoul up from the body to transcend matter and Realms to connect to other spirits and perhaps see what normally can't be seen.
The colour of Air is purple. This was fun to do as the daytime sky in Ul-Zaorith is that shade of purple, so it was just a matter of finding a location in the world that had a lot of purple in it's natural surroundings, and that brings us to late Second Season Briandyna. This would be the most south-eastern part of the country, where it's a bit more hilly and not so much flat plains. In the Distance you can see the Icy Mountains of Briandyna and that's a Boadhiniydib Tree in full bloom.
A technical note, people might say: Why isn't the glow from the spectre shining on its surroundings? The reason is that the souls that rise up from bodies are not visible to those not already outside of their own bodies, or not certain elemental creatures which can innately see such things. Ghosts, other traveling souls, Padua, creatures of the Realm of Air, Cytheria and the Gods would see this scene as it is presented. Normal mortals would merely see a man drowsing by a tree. And for those curious: while the soul is out of the body, the body becomes incredibly sucpetible to damage and illness. It is therefore prudent to have either a secluded place to perform Astral Travel or to leave someone or something to guard your corporeal body. Ahddy prefers seclusion, as here, since it brooks less distractions.

That is gorgeous! Like a;lskdjf wow! Did you do all those petals individually, or did you have a brush? How long did that take? yikes! It's really very very pretty! That background is seriously amazing.
Yaaaay someone appreciates itttt! Yeah, I was stupid-masochistic and did allt he petals by hand. Each bunch required two layers of individual petals which consisted of a base colour, a shading colour, mass shading and individual highlights, and then a seperate lighting mask layer on top to shade them according to the surrounding background. I think probably 90% of the time spent on this piece was ont he BG. The petals alone took me four days of work to do... so about... 20 hours?

Don't mind me if I show up at your house an put a tap into your skull. I think I'd like to borrow some of that mindblowingly sturdy patience of yours.
